Weekly diagnosis: A week for the strong stomached

It’s no secret that NFL locker rooms this week have more closely resembled M*A*S*H units than anything else.

But it’s not just the quantity but also the quality (if I can use that term to describe implosions of athletes’ knees) of the injuries being sustained.

First, we’ve got last week’s horrifying injury of Leonard Weaver, which rated about a 7.5 on the Willis MacGahee scale:

Then there’s this gruesome midweek malady suffered by Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia (notice the suddenly loose association between ankle and leg):

At least it gives us an excuse to post this link, a harrowing compilation of some of the worst breaks professional soccer has seen in a while (he, we need to keep Eduardo in the news somehow.)

So far, Week 2 of the NFL season has featured fewer horror movie scenes, though I think Tyler Colvin isn’t seeing the terror easement just yet.
