Steven Stamkos delivers epic penalty shot fail

What a difference a week makes in the world of hockey.

This time last week, we were marveling at the penalty shot exploits of the great Steven Stamkos, one of the most electric players in the game. His spin-o-rama penalty shot goal made the Canadiens look foolish and cemented a spot on highlight reels for years to come.

Then there was last night’s game against Pittsburgh, where his penalty shot effort was, well, not. See for yourself.

It probably didn’t help that the Lightning were facing a 5-0 deficit early in the second period. The Pens announcers glowingly referenced the previous move, almost trying to jinx the young superstar. Instead, he loses and edge about halfway in and helplessly slides into the boards with his head bowed to the delight of the Consol Energy Center faithful.

The Lightning went on to lose 8-1, do in large part to a bunch of factors not related to Stamkos’s flubbed PS. At least Stamkos will find himself a permanent place on blooper reels, too!
